(aka: What Luna Knows about Social Media)
The true power of social media is the ability to get dozens, hundreds or even thousands of people to share your messages, but people won’t share just anything. In fact, today’s online customers are more discerning than ever. That’s why it’s essential to focus your social media strategy only on the most shared content – the post formats that are likely to result in the most shares.
What you post on your social media channels says a lot about you, but it also can dictate the likes/follows and any other metric you might be looking that that leads to and drives sales.
When it comes to Facebook posts the top posts in 2017 were almost exclusively videos. Only three of the top 20 posts were not videos. The most popular topics were:
- Practical hacks (5 of the top 10 posts were practical tips)
- Awesome and inspiring content
- Food and recipes (5 of the top 25 posts were food posts)
- Cute animals
- Music videos
Four of the top 20 most shared Facebook posts were in Spanish. One of the top 20 posts was in French.
According to their own research, Facebook post that is highly shareable does at least one of the following:
- Gives
- Advises
- Warns
- Amuses
- Inspires
- Amazes
- Unites
While there is little research out there for other social media platforms, we could make some educated guestimates. So, think about what you are about to post, and if all else fails, include a cute/cuddly pet picture.
