Let’s look at how to plan for the future.
Whether 2020 is a year to forget or your business is taking you exactly where you want to be, now is the time to plan for 2021.
Why? Why now?
Running your business without a plan is not smart. The very act of planning in itself will bring you one step closer to your dreams. And now is the time because you need time to ramp up for a quick 2021 start, you may need to get people, processes, or technology onboarded and you may need to communicate this plan to your team.
Where to start?
First, take a litmus test. Do you have passion, profit, and happiness in your personal and business life right now? Looking at all facets of both your personal and business life, on a scale of 1 to 10, where do you stand. I have a great one-sheet template for this. Please do direct message me and I’ll send this to you.
Next, let’s look at some lessons learned. What can you take away from 2020? Yes, I know that we all went through (and continue to) go through a lot. What have your learned in regard to the economy, your industry, business, and personal life?
Part three - take a look at your financial performance over the past couple of years, and see if you can set some financial goals for 2021. Let’s see if we can be a little more strategic than an x % increase.
OK - on to part four. What critical success factors need to be achieved to hit those financial goals. And delving deeper, what strategies do you want to put behind those critical success factors.
You may want to add some non-financial goals at this time - in support of your critical success factors.
Part five. How are you going to measure success? What are you going to measure and how? What are your KPIs? Can you automate and digitize that measurement and have a clear dashboard to view daily in 2021? Remember, your KPIs need to include leed and lag indicators. Leed indicators are objective measurements that can you tell you in advance whether a goal is going to be achieved. A lag indicator tells you if the goal is achieved.
Part six. Get personal. Have a look at your personal objectives and work out how your business can give you what you desire in your personal life. Will you have freedom from your business? Will you be able to get any of your bucket list items crossed off? What is your next Champagne Moment and how is your business going to help you achieve it?
Lastly, how are you going to work with your business coach to make this all happen? What accountability do you need? Where do you need insight, a third party’s opinion or inspiration? That’s where your coach is going to give you the most value.
Your 2021 plan should be able to fit on two pieces of paper. Any more than that and it’s unlikely you’ll review it regularly. And you’re going to want to, because 2021 is going to be amazing - and you deserve to recognize that success.
If you would like help getting your 2021 plan in place, now is a good time to reach out to me - I would love to provide you some of our free resources or help you directly with coaching if that benefit you and your business.
Now it’s your turn. What does your 2021 plan look like?
